Can You Rock a Paper Bag? SELF LOVE Series
Week 1: Step 1 - The Self-Love Equation: Why It’s the Foundation of Personal Style
Fashion isn’t just about what you wear—it’s about how you wear it and the confidence you bring to it. The truth is, you could rock a paper bag if you carried yourself with self-assurance. But where does that confidence come from? It starts from within.
Before you refine your wardrobe, define your worth. Before you curate your style, cultivate your self-love. That’s why the first step in this series is all about The Self-Love Equation—a simple yet powerful formula that lays the foundation for personal style.
The Self-Love Equation
Know who you are,
Accept it,
Cherish & love it.
This equation isn’t just about style—it’s about owning your presence in the world. When you master these three steps, your confidence becomes unshakable, and your personal style becomes a true reflection of YOU.
Personal Reflection: Confidence Starts Within
As a designer and stylist, I was fortunate to grow up surrounded by confident women. My mother was confident. My great-grandmother—who raised my mother and my aunts—was confident. Everywhere I looked, I saw strength, self-assurance, and a deep understanding of personal worth. I couldn’t help but absorb that confidence.
But as I started working in fashion and styling other women, I quickly realized that not everyone had that same foundation. Some women didn’t grow up with those figures in their lives—figures who showed them how to stand tall in their truth, how to love themselves, and how to exude confidence before ever putting on an outfit.
That’s when it clicked for me. The equation starts with what you wear, but the real magic is in how you wear it—and that all comes down to how you feel before you even get dressed. Confidence isn’t just an accessory; it’s the foundation of personal style.
I could dress someone in the most stunning, high-fashion look, but if they didn’t feel good about themselves first, the outfit would never shine the way it should. That realization was the spark that led to The Fashion Women’s Movement—a movement rooted in making sure women feel empowered before they even put on their clothes.
Because at the heart of it all, confidence isn’t something you wear. It’s something you cultivate. And when you do? You can wear anything—even a paper bag—and still turn heads.
1️⃣ Know Who You Are
The way you dress is a visual representation of who you are—but do you really know yourself?
Take time to understand your values, strengths, and what makes you unique.
Define what confidence means to you, without outside influences shaping your perspective.
Identify what lights you up—your passions, your energy, and how you naturally express yourself.
When you dress with intention and authenticity, you don’t just follow trends—you set them.
2️⃣ Accept It
We live in a world full of comparison, but the moment you own your uniqueness, you unlock a new level of personal style.
Embrace every part of yourself, including the so-called “flaws.” Perfection is a myth—authenticity is power.
Let go of the pressure to conform. Your journey, your body, your style—it’s yours.
Shift your mindset from “I wish I was…” to “I am enough.”
Style confidence isn’t about looking like someone else—it’s about looking like the best version of YOU.
3️⃣ Cherish & Love It
Loving yourself isn’t just a mindset—it’s an action.
Speak to yourself with the same kindness you give others.
Show yourself love through self-care, dressing in a way that empowers you, and setting boundaries that protect your peace.
Celebrate your wins—big or small. Confidence is built one step at a time.
When you KNOW yourself, ACCEPT yourself, and LOVE yourself, you walk into rooms differently. You own your presence. And yes—you could rock a paper bag and still turn heads.
